June

On Sunday 18, Juliet produced, for a Father’s Day card, this life-like collage of Roger wearing a striped polo shirt.  From a kit in The Guardian, I believe.  Helen’s card reproduced a tasteful watercolour entitled ‘Conducting Mahler’ – just as appropriate* and as appreciated.

* No, I haven’t conducted Mahler but Helen has played him.

Jay completed her AS exams, for which she worked very hard.  But she was back at school again full time on 19 June to start work on the A2 syllabus.  Meanwhile, the university application process looms.  The school ran a day trip to Oxford on 29 for possible Oxbridge applicants.  Jay visited the university biology department and Hertford College, though deciding the latter was not for her.

Jay continued to enjoy her pony, though the exams meant a longish break from competitions.  This ended on 25, when the Mill Farm stables held their second dressage competition of the year.  Since owning Clyde, Jay has worked hard to improve his dressage performance, and she was rewarded by Clyde’s winning both the classes for which he was entered.

The better weather meant that we rolled out the barbecue again and had a couple of pleasant evenings on the patio.

We visited Moreton market on 13 June:

Roger was also busy on the bowling green, though success in the club competitions has eluded him this year.  However, in an inter-club triples competition which he has started playing in, Overbury ended the month with a narrow lead at the top of the league table, hoping to repeat the success of two years’ ago, when they won it (Roger at the time being a permanent, but non-playing, reserve).
